At Oak Park Chiropractic, Low-Level Laser Therapy is a great treatment that we use to alleviate pain and stimulate healing in our patients. Many people find that they experience immediate results after a short laser therapy session.

How It Works

At Oak Park Chiropractic, we use infrared lasers with controlled and adjustable power. With low-level laser therapy, photons of laser energy penetrate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. As a result of exposure to cold laser therapy, the cells of tendons, ligaments, and muscles repair themselves faster. As inflammation is reduced, the pain subsides very quickly.

When the laser penetrates the tissue, this causes a chain of events that lead to adenosine triphosphate production, which the cells use for energy. This photochemical reaction results in an increase in the cellular metabolism rate, which expedites cell repair and several systems’ stimulation: the immune, lymphatic, and vascular.

This stimulation of the cells enhances healing, improves nerve function, increases vascular activity, reduces pain, and reduces inflammation. The entire process is relatively quick, taking on average 10 minutes per session.

More Great Treatment Options

We also offer ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation. Electrical muscle stimulation is a type of therapy that is similar to a mini massage. It increases the blood flow to the area of injury thus promoting the healing process. This therapy can be used with either moist heat or a cold pack, depending on the condition. Ultrasound produces sound waves that decrease swelling and inflammation. This type of therapy works well for sprain and strains.
